PG&E’s Proposed Bonus Program Prioritizes Profits Over Safety

Despite filing for bankruptcy in January, the company has asked the bankruptcy judge to approve payment of $235 million in bonuses to employees in 2019. PG&E issued a statement that bonuses will be paid if workers meet safety and operational goals, but court documents indicate that meeting financial goals rather than safety are the priority for bonuses.

Nor Cal Fire Lawyer, Mike Danko, explained:

“It’s just unfair to PG&E’s victims. It’s inappropriate to pay PG&E employees bonuses while wildfire victims are living in trailers in parking lots or in tents on burned out lots waiting for aid from PG&E. Some of them now have been waiting more than 3.5 years.”
