Yuba County Board of Supervisors Votes to Sue PG&E

According to the Appeal-Democrat, on October 23, 2018, the Yuba County Board of Supervisors voted to authorize its attorneys to initiate litigation against PG&E as a result of the Cascade Fire in October 2017.  Earlier this month, Cal Fire determined that the Cascade Fire was caused by PG&E power lines.

Per the Appeal-Democrat report, the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office said it would not file criminal charges against PG&E.  Yuba County Counsel Courtney Abril said in a statement that “[t]his lawsuit is intended to seek compensation from those entities responsible for the fires; costs that should not be shouldered by Yuba County, which is still recovering from the devastation” and that “[l]egal action is a necessary step to restore our resilient community.”  The Appeal-Democrat also reported that the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office said it would not file criminal charges against the utility.
